Alkylphenol Ether Carboxylate Sodium (20EO)

APEC-20Na, a phenol ether carboxylate also known as sodium alkylphenol polyoxyethylene ether carboxylate, is a new type of anionic-nonionic surfactant. Its structure is very similar to that of soap, but the embedded EO chains give it the characteristics of both anionic and nonionic surfactants, allowing it to be used over a wide pH range. It exhibits excellent cleaning, emulsifying, and dispersing properties, as well as the ability to disperse calcium soaps; it possesses good foaming power and foam stability; it is resistant to acids, alkalis, hard water, high temperatures, oxidizing agents, and reducing agents; it has good compatibility and, in particular, does not interfere with the performance of cationic surfactants; it offers good solubilizing properties, making it suitable for formulating functional transparent products, and is readily biodegradable.

1. It contains two types of hydrophilic groups with different properties (anionic and nonionic), combining the advantages of both anionic and nonionic surfactants. This prevents the chromatographic separation that occurs in geological formations when anionic and nonionic surfactants are used in combination.
2. It is resistant to high temperatures and high salinity; when blended with sodium heavy alkylbenzene sulfonate and other anionic surfactants, it enhances the latter’s resistance to hardness. APEC-20 can withstand temperatures up to 300°C and remains clear and transparent in saturated NaCl and 3% CaCl₂ solutions.
3. As the number of EO units increases, the phenol ether carboxylate APEC-20Na exhibits better heat and salt resistance than APEC-15Na; however, its permeability and wettability deteriorate, its cleaning performance decreases, and its surface tension is higher than that of APEC-4Na and APEC-10Na, though its emulsification and dispersion capabilities improve.
Applications:
Used as an oil displacement agent under high-temperature, high-salinity conditions, the phenol ether carboxylate APEC-20Na’s high-temperature resistance makes it suitable as the primary surfactant in steam flooding. It can significantly reduce the oil-water interfacial tension and improve crude oil recovery.
Used as an emulsifying and viscosity-reducing agent for heavy oil; the salt content or mineralization level of the reservoir does not affect its viscosity-reducing performance.
Scope of Application 
Can be used in household detergents, industrial cleaning agents, and phosphate-free detergents; in the textile industry for processes such as scouring, mercerizing, bleaching, softening, and dyeing; as a high-temperature-resistant and high-concentration electrolyte-resistant emulsifier and viscosity reducer in tertiary oil recovery and oil transportation to improve crude oil recovery rates and prevent wax precipitation; in the paper industry for deinking of waste paper and in softener formulations; and in the leather industry as a component of degreasing agents, among other applications.

Directions for Use

This product is a paste with poor flowability and must be heated to 50–70°C in a reactor before being blended with other products.

Packaging Specifications

1. Depending on customer requirements, the product will be packaged in ton containers or 200-kg drums and shipped to the designated location by the date specified by the customer. 
2. This product is non-toxic and non-flammable; it should be stored and transported as a general chemical. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area.
