Jilin Oilfield: Six-Year Idle Well Fully Revitalized After Days of Fracturing Technical Breakthrough

As reported on April 20, the first batch of fracturing operations for 5 oil wells in the Dalaoyefu Operation Area of Jilin Oilfield has been successfully completed, kicking off the annual production targets. Among them, Well Lao 2-24, which had been shut down for six years, was fully revitalized following days of intensive technical research, setting a benchmark for tapping potential and boosting output from aging wells.
Aged wells suffered prominent operational hurdles in early spring. Long-term production at Jilin Oilfield led to persistent bottlenecks including residual buildup from formation flowback, severe scale deposition on well walls, and poor wellbore cleanliness. For Well Lao 2-24, six years had passed since its last pump inspection. Its tail pipe was covered in scale up to 5 millimeters thick, causing casing diameter shrinkage and creating major obstacles for milling operations. Drilling progress stalled at a depth of 1,180 meters, with a daily penetration rate of merely 30 meters.
Faced with this tough challenge, Jilin Oilfield’s technical team remained on-site, and operation crews pressed forward against all odds. Over 10 days, with drill bits replaced three times, crews completed the full milling and precise depth calibration inch by inch. Technicians collected and tested downhole samples on site to accurately measure calcium and magnesium ion concentrations. A completion plan with chemical scale inhibitor tubing installed at the well bottom was adopted to eliminate blockages at the source and restore productivity to the aging well.
During construction, the technical team implemented refined customized solutions: one tailored strategy per well, one optimized design per fracturing segment. A cost-effective high-efficiency system combining clean water, guanidine gum and quartz sand was deployed. An innovative fluid package of pad fluid plus oil intensifier was formulated to unclog perforation tunnels. Limited-entry perforation paired with targeted temporary plugging enabled directional reservoir stimulation, while optimized fracturing fluid and proppants enhanced formation conductivity.
Meanwhile, process specialists established an integrated linkage mechanism linking technical design and field execution, maintaining round-the-clock on-site duty. All critical parameters were monitored throughout the workflow, allowing rapid responses to unexpected operating conditions and guaranteeing one-time successful completion of the fracturing job.
“Multi-disciplinary coordination across geological interval selection, process R&D and overall production scheduling allowed us to finish the first round of fracturing ahead of schedule,” said Feng Yanjun, a frontline technical staff member of Jilin Oilfield.
Moving forward, the R&D team will keep focusing on wellbore remediation and fracturing quality improvement, deepen potential exploitation of mature wells, and carry out subsequent operations under stricter standards to achieve quality and efficiency upgrades for the aging oilfield.
